From his days as a grocery clerk to his current work as director of special projects for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1189, Hesse has made himself ubiquitous in St. Paul’s labor community. He reflects on those experiences on the occasion of his retirement.
Workers at Seward Co-op grocery in Minneapolis welcomed a special visitor Monday, June 19 — State Representative Ilhan Omar, who walked through the store talking with workers and cheering on their union organizing effort.
The Worker Organizing Committee and the management of Seward Coop have agreed "to work together to ensure a fair and democratic election" on Thursday, June 22, they announced. Workers will vote whether to be represented by United Food & Commercial Workers Local 653.
Workers at Seward Community Co-op hope to become the next group of co-op employees to win union recognition. On Wednesday, more than 100 workers and supporters marched to three Seward locations, chanting, “Union Power!”
